SOCIAL EVENTS 2009

Jody Lagioia - PCA Potomac Social Chair

The social side of the club is a neutral part of every one of the club's programs. The club is all about the people, and you will find a warm welcome at all Potomac events.  Last year we started an informal monthly breakfast meeting which is held on the first Saturday of each month at the Chutzpah Deli in Tyson’s Corner and the third Saturday of the month at the Irish Inn in Glen Echo, MD.   These breakfasts continue to be very popular and draw 30 -60 Club members and spouses at each event.   For many of these members the Breakfast is their first Potomac event, and one that they enjoyed immensely.   Now that the weather is improving, John Eberhardt, our Drive and Dine Chair is adding informal drive after some of the breakfasts. This gives everyone a chance to enjoy the cars on some of the terrific cruising routes around the area.

Our Drive & Dine events, the many car shows in our Concours program, and the quarterly Open Board meetings are also great opportunities to share in the life of the club. Check the Calendar for dates.

Our Social calendar provides many great events again this year.   For those of you who participated in any of last year's social events, hopefully it was a positive experience and you will back again this year!   Please share your experience with other members and encourage all to come out and enjoy the fun with your fellow members in 2009.

Here's the schedule:

APRIL

•Saturday April 18                                                                                     Open Board Meeting & Breakfast                                                              10:00 AM at the Irish Inn, Glen Echo, MD.

We are trying something new this year by combining an Open Board Meeting with one of our popular breakfasts. Come and meet the folks who are running the club, and hear what's going on with the club's programs. Enjoy a buffet breakfast. Be aware that we are always on the lookout for volunteers!!

MAY

•Saturday May 30                                                                                     Porsches and Yachts                       12:00 PM – 9:00 PM                          National Harbor, MD

On Saturday, May 30th, from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m., Porsche of Arlington and PCA Potomac in conjunction with United States Yacht Shows Inc. is offering exclusively to Porsche owners a day of Porsches and yachts at the National Harbor.  This is a great day to come out with family and friends to enjoy cars, friends, food and sporting activities. You do need to register for this event. We will post registration information about one month prior to the event.  National Harbor is located just over the Wilson Bridge off the 495 Beltway.

JUNE

•Saturday, June 28                                                                                    Gala Dinner at the Glen                                                                              6:00 PM International Motor Racing Research Center, Watkins Glen, NY.

This is just one more reason to consider participating in our annual Watkins Glen Drivers Education event. Besides driving on one of the greatest and most historic tracks in the country, taking in the beautiful Seneca Lake and the surrounding wine country scenery, you have the opportunity to have dinner at the Motor Racing Research Center. Where else can you see such a great collection motor racing memorabilia and enjoy a great dinner all that the same time. Tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased at the track beginning on Friday.

JULY

•Saturday, July 18                                                                                        Open Board Meeting & Maryland Breakfast                                                10AM at the Irish Inn, Glen Echo, MD

Come and meet the folks who are running the club, and hear what's going on with the club's programs. Enjoy a buffet breakfast. Be aware that we are always on the lookout for volunteers!!

AUGUST

• Saturday, August 15                                                                        PorscheFest Dinner                                                                                    6:00 PM at Summit Point Motorsports Park, WV

The PorscheFest dinner is a special event. We host wounded vets and their families from Walter Reed Medical Center for an entire day at the track.  The dinner is culmination of this special event.  Registration for the DE includes one dinner ticket. You can purchase additional tickets for friends and family at the track. We will provide more information as the event approaches.

SEPTEMBER

• Saturday September 12                                                                              4th Annual Crab Feast & Charity Crab Races                                               11AM - 4PM at the Chesapeake Yacht Club, Shady Side, MD

The crabs are fresh from the Bay and perfectly prepared Chesapeake style.  The steamed clams and shrimp are terrific.  The setting overlooking the water is perfect.  And to top it all off there are the (in)famous Potomac crab races for charity.  Bet on your favorite crab (not your spouse) and the proceeds go to our charities.  We plan on having a Rally earlier in the day that will end at the marina.  What's not to like?  Registration will open closer to the event.

OCTOBER

Saturday, October 3                                                                              Potomac Club Race Dinner                                                                         6:00 PM at Summit Point Motorsports Park, WV.

The Racers Dinner at the Potomac Club Race is the epicenter of bench racing, tall tales, and revisionist history.  Our club race draws some of the best PCA racers from regions all over the east coast.  Potomac members who volunteer to help run our club race get the very best seats in the house!!

• Saturday October 10                                                                                     Open Board Meeting & Breakfast                                                              10:00 AM at the Irish Inn, Glen Echo, MD

This month's Maryland breakfast will be on the second Saturday of the Month to deconflict with Porsches at the International Gold Cup the following weekend.  Come and meet the folks who are running the club, and hear what's going on with the club's programs.  Enjoy a buffet breakfast.  Be aware that we are always on the lookout for volunteers!!

JANUARY 2010

• DATE AND PLACE TBD                                                                        Holiday Celebration

ALSO IN 2010, POTOMAC WILL HAVE OUR 55TH ANNIVERSARY BASED ON OUR CHARTER DATE AS RECORDED BY PCA NATIONAL. WATCH FOR DETAILS OF OUR ANNIVERSARY PARTY.
